The Scorebook is designed to be used by the fan, the parent, the non-official scorekeeper. It contains a place for all the stats that I want to keep when I am watching a game. Rebounds and turnovers are important for sure, but this scorebook is designed for a different purpose.

This scorebook is smaller, easier, and less official. You can keep a book for one season. You can keep a book just for your team. You can keep a book just for your kid. You can even keep a book while watching games on TV. Or you can do all of these. The design of this scorebook allows you to do whatever you want.

Going to my local high school basketball games, I was one of those dorky fans in the stands keeping a scorebook, which has always been one of my hobbies.

In the recent years, scorekeeping has gone the way of computer apps. This scorebook is more personal, and perhaps a bit old fashioned in its pencil-and-paper design, although I like to think of it as nostalgic.

This scorebook was designed for people like me, not the student manager tasked with keeping official records.

You’re free to keep the stats however you want. I’ve included an example of how I do it, but there are no rules. Other scorebooks I’ve used are bigger and more complex, so I’ve decided to make mine simpler, cleaner, and not as floppy. It’s still plenty dorky for those fans like me, but you don’t need a desk to use it. Just your lap.
